Elephant Song is about a government clerk in Mumbai who, after a major tragedy, begins to question the biases, beliefs and ignorance of the world around him. Using influences from the minimalism of Grotovsky’s poor theatre to portray a hectic maximalist megalopolis that is Mumbai, the piece relies heavily on sound. Sounds of traditional Indian instruments, inspired by the poems of Kabir, permeate the atmosphere.
