Effie is the type you’d avoid as you pass her on the street, yet she claims you are “in her debt." To prove this, she takes you on a journey from nightly benders to an event that sparks a glimmer of hope for a more meaningful life. This tour-de-force solo show is a disruptive demand for revolution from the voice of a community left behind by economic deprivation.
Written by Gary Owen, Iphigenia in Splott is a powerful story of love, hope and sacrifice in a time of harsh austerity measures in the U.K.

More about the show and company

The core members of Skipping Stones Theatre are New Generation Artists who came together through their love of storytelling and have been creating together ever since. The collective strives to integrate their mandate of exploring stories through the lens of mental health and neurodiversity into practice and facilitate opportunities for Feminist, Queer, and Mad artists to share their stories and perspectives. More information on the collective can be found at www.skippingstonestheatre.com.

Land acknowledgement

As settlers on this land, the members of Skipping Stones Theatre would like to acknowledge that we are gathered here on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinabee, the Chippewa the Huron-Wyndat, as well as many nations, both recorded and unrecorded. This meeting place, now known as Toronto, is home to many indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to be able to live, work, create and tell stories in this community.

We recognize that a land acknowledgement is not enough; we must recognize the ongoing injustice and mistreatment of indigenous people on Turtle Island. We, Skipping Stones Theatre, are learning and unlearning our relationship to this land, and are continuing to learn what a land acknowledgement means to each of us.
