It's 7pm in downtown Toronto where a run down strip club get's ready to open up for an usual night. The workers at the club get ready for the night. As the hours go on, the dancers' regular schedule becomes interrupted as an old dancer comes back to visit, a lingering customer stays around, a love obsession distracts the room, and more. By the time we reach the closing hour of 4am, the dancers discover themes of identity, sex, religion, sexuality, desire, fetishization, girlhood, what femininity means as a woman of colour, and more.

The Unhushed Theatre Collective has company members living around the world, with our most active work taking place in Tkaronto. Tkaronto, or the land we are on today, is the ancestral territory of many nations including the Anishnabee, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, the Wendat peoples, and the current treaty holders; the Mississaugas of the Credit. Tkaronto is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Acknowledging the caretakers of this land is not enough. We must, as non-Indigenous people, do much more than listen, but actively learn, participate, and work hard to decolonize the spaces in and around us and uplift this land’s indigenous youth, elders, women, and communities. The Unhushed Theatre Collective is humbled that we are able to be artists on stolen land and acknowledges that "Swallow This Skin" would not be able to happen without past and ongoing pain and trauma endured by Indigenous peoples.
