The Fringe Festival is July 5 – 16th, 2017

TD Culturally Diverse Artist Project (CDAP)

Applications are now closed. Thanks to all who applied.

PROJECT GOAL: To encourage participation by culturally diverse artists in the Toronto Fringe Festival.

The Toronto Fringe is committed to offering creative opportunities to artists and arts lovers. With the generous and invaluable support from TD Bank, we are able to launch another three years of this project that encourages greater participation in the Fringe Festival by artists who self-identify as culturally diverse. Participation is encouraged by removing some of the traditional barriers to participation.

The Fringe Festival is programmed when shows are drawn at our yearly lottery party from various categories. Those who are drawn from the CDAP lottery category will receive the following:

1. Free entry into the CDAP lottery (usually $28.50 registration fee)
2. Free participation fee into the Festival (usually $750 fee)
3. $1000 cash bursary to assist in covering production costs
4. Networking opportunities with other CDAP participants
5. A paid mentor, to be assigned on a case by case basis to address each participant’s needs

Please note: CDAP artists will never be highlighted, branded or considered different from shows in any other lottery categories.

Details

CDAP is only available to artists who self-identify as culturally diverse* artists and who reside in Ontario and who have not produced in the Toronto Fringe Festival before. (Please note that they can have applied to the Lottery before or taken part  in a Fringe show).

*As per the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council, culturally diverse includes individuals identifying as Aboriginal and people of colour. Aboriginal includes Métis, Inuit, Status and Non-Status. Person of Colour includes individuals of Asian, African, Aborigine, Caribbean, Latin American, and African descent etc., as well as mixed ethnicity.

Applicants must select which lottery category applies to them which can include; Ontario 60 Minute, Ontario 90 Minute, FringeKids or Dance. (They are not eligible for the National or International categories). When considering applying to CDAP, please keep in mind that it is designed to encourage artists who have felt excluded or unable to participate in the festival, and we rely on your self-identification as the only requirement for participation. Three participants will be selected by lottery.  If you wish to enter the main lottery as well, you can do so. Please note, if you are chosen in the CDAP lottery and then subsequently chosen in the main lottery, we will choose another lottery applicant for the main lottery slot.    Your entry fee into the main lottery is non-refundable.

Participants are selected by lottery

After the lottery, apart from the administering of the CDAP benefits, participants will be considered alongside all other companies, and will not be highlighted, identified or otherwise treated differently than any other festival participant. The participant will be required to self-produce their project and responsible for all liability and risk associated with their own project.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns cdap@fringetoronto.com or at 416-966-1062.

DEFINITION:

“Primary Contact” is the individual responsible for the application to the lottery, and will be the sole contact for that company/production for Fringe Festival staff.  The “Primary Contact” must self-identify as culturally diverse to apply for CDAP, and must not have previously taken part in the Toronto Fringe Festival, but no further qualifications apply.
